Finalists named in young lighter competition

The Society of Light & Lighting has announced the finalists for the 2011 Young Lighter of the Year competition. They will have chance to present their papers at the Arc show.

The five finalists and their topics are: Kerem Asfurglu, water as daylight control; Stylianos Axiotakis, defining chromatic light pollution; James Duff, the use of compact fluorescent lamps in the domestic environment; Christopher Knowlton, user controlled environments within intelligent architectural spaces; and Jemima Unwin, night lighting in hospital wards.

Exterior lighting company Paviom has been chosen to support a two-year study into how cities can balance the need to create urban identity with a low-carbon economy.

The lighting industry has been challenged to discover what specific lighting works best for different forms of sight loss.
