This month Osram has unveiled some significant innovations in electronic control gear, including the company’s lightest, most compact 35W electronic control gear (ECG) to date.
The Powertronic PTi 35 S MINI runs 35W lamps and has a stonking lifetime of up to 40,000 hours. The footprint and housing are identical to a PTi 20 S. It is suitable for all standard 35W ceramic metal halide lamps and is designed to be installed within the luminaire. Equipped with extremely compact dimensions, a lightweight plastic housing and a fixture cable length of 0.5m, the PTi 35 S MINI is ideal for primary and accent lighting applications. Osram says its gear delivers improved colour stability, safer and more reliable lamp operation, and up to 30 per cent longer lamp life.
The company has also unveiled new gear for exterior applications, including the multifunctional Powertronic PTo 3DIM unit. It features incredible efficiency and durability to enhance street and outdoor lighting. It’s available in a range of wattages that come equipped with three options for controlling and dimming lamps.
PTo 3DIM ECG is available in 50W, 70W, 100W and 150W versions that permit dimming of the light down to 60 per cent of the original output. Osram says the ballast reduces energy losses by up to 50 per cent compared with conventional control gear and increases lamp efficiency by up to 10 per cent as well as operating life by up to 30 per cent. The developers also point out that failures will be rare thanks to an average operating life of 60,000 hours and a surge protection of up to 10 kV.
With PTo 3DIM, Osram offers a sustainable and long-term solution for street and outdoor lighting. Depending on the nature and scope of the control task, the ECG can be altered from one dimming mode to another without requiring any changes to the hardware.
The 3DIM control logic will become an Osram standard: in addition to the ECG for HID lamps, Osram is also promising LED power supplies for street lighting fitted with 3DIM control options in the future.
