French phase-out

French lighting manufacturers and wholesalers have agreed a voluntary deal to phase out inefficient fluorescent luminaires.

From this month, companies signed up to the deal – brokered by Syndicat De L’Eclairage, the equivalent of the LIF – will not quote for fittings with A2 or A1 ballasts. From June, it will withdraw these totally from the market.

Speirs + Major wins massive mosque job

Speirs + Major has won a major lighting design contract working on a massive mosque and cultural centre in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
The practice – which is part of a team led by the centre’s designers, BIG architects – created the acclaimed lighting for the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi two years ago.
