‘Go green or go bust’

Former energy secretary Chris Huhne has said the UK could slip deeper into recession unless it invests in ‘green’ growth.

In an article published in the Guardian, the Liberal Democrat MP said the UK has ‘no choice’ but to go green.

Huhne, who quit as energy secretary earlier this year after learning he would be charged with perverting the course of justice over a 2003 speeding case, does not point the finger at specific government policies or ministers, but his intervention suggests an increase in coalition infighting over green policy.

‘Much of our economic debate implies we must choose between going green or going for growth. That view may be the opposite of the truth,’ Huhne wrote. ‘There is now hard evidence that the real choice is between green growth or no growth at all.’
